How do metrosexuals spend their money? Good question. Here’s a chart to show you how a metrosexual divides his money for the week:

budget chart Metrosexual Budget

The basic breakdowns on a $5000 monthly budget are:

Fine Dining: 30%, or $1500. This is not your entire weekly food budget, in fact, that’s a little too stingy for a metrosexual. Food itself should be costing you around $50 a day average. Eat breakfast at home, make some scrambled eggs and toast, or cereal, whatever you like, BUT you must stop at a Starbucks, or Tim Hortons, to grab a fine Latte, Chai, Green tea, or whatever you prefer. Coffee shops are a metrosexual’s heaven. Bring your laptop and do your work to the coffee shop, or arrange informal meetings at a coffee shop. Also, for lunch and dinner, go a little extra and order a fine wine or cognac. This is a metrosexual’s success presentation!

Style: 20% or $1000 a month. Every other week, treat yourself to a hair appointment, manicure (and pedicure if you wish), and also hit the gym 2-3 times a week, this should cost you around $100-$250 a month.  Then you have $750-$900 to spend on clothing. Yes, this makes sense, you be buying some new clothes; suits, shirts, jeans, shoes, whatever, but this is important for you to maintain your style.

Savings and Investments: 50% or $2500 a month. The rest of your money should be going to your investments, whether stocks, bonds, real estate, or businesses. Your mortgage should be paid with this money (and mortgages do count as an investment, it is real estate). The rest of the money you should put in some sort of savings, whether stocks or your savings account.

A metrosexual’s spending habits attribute to his success!

How to Dress For Your First Date

Looking good on the first date is not actually something that the women wants; they actually want you to look appropriate for the first date. But, that being said, looks can actually help you quite a bit! By looks, I don’t mean that you have to be Brad Pitt or Justin Timberlake, but you have to take care of yourself. Luckily, for the true metrosexual, this is not a problem, but there may be some tips which you have overlooked. Here are a few things you should make sure for the first date:

Grooming: Make sure your hair is done. Get a hair appointment a few hours before, and make sure your hair is styled to your liking. Make sure you shave the day of your date as well. That does not mean that if your style is a scruffy beard, that you go clean shaved, but shave the parts that should not be there. If you have a goatee, shave the scruff that should not be there. If you have scruff, trim it so that it is not unattractive. Put some cologne on, don’t shower in it, but a couple of sprays near the neck does not hurt (if it’s near the neck, she’ll come closer to you, just a tip). Check your breath, make sure you shower and you should be groomed to go.

Clothing: Make sure you dress appropriately. Do not be over the top, and do not be too dressed down. Dress to the occasion. Depending on how casual the date is, that should determine how casual your clothing should be. Do not wear a tuxedo to the movie theatre, but do not wear sneakers to a fine Italian restaurant.

Jewellery: Jewellery does not matter that much, but if you insist on wearing a watch, or your earring, or any jewellery, just make sure it does not look cheap. Wear a nice watch, not a casio sports watch. Wear a nice thin chain, not a Flava Flav clock.

These are basically the nuts and bolts to dressing up on your first date. Remember though, it is not about how you look, it is all about how you present yourself. If you clean, and look like you take care of yourself, your lady friend will like that. It shows that you care, and hopefully you will put the same care into your lady!

Definition of a Metrosexual

What is a metrosexual? Well, according to Wikipedia;

“Metrosexual is a neologism of the 2000s generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, and/or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men. This may also include extreme vanity. Other aspects of metrosexuality may include plucking eye brows and particular attention to skin care, hair style or clothing fashions.”

That pretty much sums it up, especially the part where a metrosexual man is just a heterosexual man with a concern for his appearance and lifestyle is stereotypically attributed to gay men. This does not just mean that a metrosexual is a heterosexual man who cares about his appearance, but it also means that a metrosexual man cares about his lifestyle in general. Metrosexuals also have a strong successful vibe to them. Think of Barney Stinson, Joey Tribbiani, or even Patrick Bateman (minus the serial killer part). These are great examples of metrosexual men. The yuppie is very similar to a metrosexual, a young urban professional who has a strong concern about his looks.

Metrosexuals also have a keen sense of art, of fine-living and of success. Fine living is very important. For the metrosexual, long gone are the days of “beer makes you manly” and now it is “an apple martini with a side of lime is finer”. The metrosexual also dresses in brand name fashion, not only because it looks good, but also because it is expensive and finer than regular clothing.

In my books, metrosexuals are heterosexual men in an urban environment who have a concern for their appearance and enjoy fine living.
